Delivering superior wear protection for construction material handling equipment
Construction material-handling equipment can take a beating. The wear and tear of scooping, loading, crushing, and hauling causes abrasion and impact damage that increases maintenance costs and shortens the equipment’s useful life.
At Fraser Molloy, we offer a fast, effective, long-lasting wear protection solution: TuffStudds [LINK]. TuffStudds are hardened studs that you can quickly and easily weld to buckets, augers, grapple fingers, dozer blades, crushers, and more. By applying TuffStudds in a staggered pattern, you can create a ruggedized surface that absorbs wear and protects the equipment.
TuffStudds offer several major advantages:
Dead bed effect. When TuffStudds are applied in a staggered pattern, material is captured between the studs, resulting in material wearing on material, versus material wearing on your equipment.
Fast installation. A TuffStudd takes less than a second to apply. Simply load a TuffStudd and a ceramic arc shield (ferrule) into the stud welding gun, position it on the work surface, and pull the trigger. You can install a square foot of wear protection in as little as 18 minutes.
Safe installation. Unlike MIG or TIG welding, stud welding is a virtually smokeless process with a split-second flash time, making it safer for the installers’ lungs and eyes.
Safer for equipment. Other wear protection methods, such as welding wear plates, chock blocks and hardfacing, can cause the base material to crack and warp due to the extreme heat generated. Because a TuffStudd can be applied in less than a second, the heat applied to your equipment is greatly reduced.
TuffStudds come in three sizes [LINK] and can be applied to mild steel, AR plates, and magnesium surfaces. They are applied using a stud welding system [LINK] that employs a stud gun [LINK] powered by transformer/rectifier or inverter technology with solid-state weld timing and amperage control. For weld applications requiring maximum portability, an AC generator [LINK] with a minimum capacity of 85 kW can power the DC welding system.
